Munir Sheikh Ahmed who is the Chief Executive of National Bank has been voted ‘Banking CEO of the Year’ for 2014. Organized by the Think Business in conjunction with Deloitte and Infotrak Africa, this honour is awarded to a CEO of Bank in recognition of exemplary leadership and contributions to the overall growth of their organization.
Accepting the award, Mr. Ahmed said: “I am truly honored to receive this Award. It’s a fantastic reflection of the excellent teams that I am privileged to work with at National Bank. I am proud of what we’ve achieved in our quest to transform the Bank into tier 1 bank by 2017 and I believe National Bank has an exciting future.”
Mr. Ahmed is leading the Bank’s turnaround strategy which is now under implementation and has already started bearing early fruits.
The transformation program entails a number of projects that broadly include organizational structure changes, innovation and development of products and customer value propositions, developing an effective sales model, expansion of distribution network, centralization and automation of service delivery, enhancing the Bank’s risk management capabilities and diversify the bank’s portfolios and businesses, introducing a rigorous performance management framework, staff development programme and rebranding.
He was appointed as the CEO and Managing Director of National Bank of Kenya in August 2012. Mr. Ahmed holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degrees from the University of Nairobi as well as finance qualifications.
