24 Agripreneurs from different parts of the country were feted in this year’s Annual National Farmers Awards. The agripreneurs were awarded during a gala event held at the Stanley hotel.
The National Farmers Awards Scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Elgon Kenya Limited and is sponsored by BASF. The initiative is part of efforts to reposition agriculture as a business as Kenya strives to promote the sector as a key activity under the Vision 2030.
This year’s awards attracted thousands of entries. The 2015 winners were as follows:
- Best Large-scale farm – Nyeri Hill farm of the Archdiocese of Nyeri dealing in coffee and coffee processing
- Best small scale farmer fully commercialized– Olmara Farm in Kirinyaga dealing in dairy and milk processing
- Best small farmer gearing for commercialization – Ms. Naomi Ngunyi from Laikipia dealing in Bananas, Dairy, pineapples and Maize.
- Best Farmer Youth – Ms. Janet Chebet from Nyamira dealing in aquaculture and green house farming
- Best Farmer Women – Ms. Florence Karambu Njiraini from Kirinyaga dealing in dairy bananas and maize
- Best Farmer Persons with Disabilities – Mr. Dominic Muya Mbugua from Nakuru dealing in bananas, dairy and poultry
- Best Large Scale agro-vet dealer – Sidai Africa Ltd in Isiolo
- Best Small-scale agro-input dealer –Jupiter farmput supplies in Nyeri
