Many subscribers and small businesses have been anticipating to find out the new data bundles that Safaricom has introduced after complaints from its customers. Safaricom announced that the new data bundle will be available for Pre-pay and Post-Pay subscribers.
According to Sylvia Mulinge, Safaricom’s Director of Consumer Business Unit, under the daily Data bundle, customers will have an option of purchasing data bundles from 7MB from as low as Kshs. 5 up to 150MB at Kshs. 50.
The new changes that Safaricom have introduced is that if you have unused bundle before the expiry date, that bundles will roll over to the next day should you purchase another Daily Data Bundle before expiry.
It seems Safaricom has made these changes after a huge uproar in social media where Kenyans have been complaining that they wanted a roll over feature in their unused bundles upon renewal of bundles. Before these new changes, subscriber’s unused bundles were permanently made unavailable by Safaricom after expiry date.
Another issue that subscribers were complaining about was the freedom to use their bundle at anytime and not having any restrictions whether day or night.
At the expiry of 7 days, any unused bundles will expire and will be permanently unavailable. However, if you buy another bundle before the lapse of the 7 days, your unused bundle will be rolled over and be available to you for the validity period of the new bundle you have purchased.
The Weekly bundles will be available from 5MB at Kshs 5 to 130MB at Kshs 100. The weekly bundles will be valid for 7 days from the time of purchase.
The monthly data bundles will have a validity period of 30 days from the time of purchase and will be available from 350MB at Kshs 250 to 12 GB at Kshs 3,000. However, if you buy another bundle before the lapse of 30 days, your unused bundle will be rolled over and be available to you for the validity period of the new bundle you have purchased
The 90 days bundle will only be accessible through M-Pesa and will not be available through rechargeable vouchers. The bundles will only be available from 6GB at Kshs 3,000 to 30GB at Kshs 9,000
For time based tariff, Safaricom prepay subscribers will be able to activate to access the internet at Kshs. 2/- per minute billed per second regardless of the volume of data downloaded.
This will however not apply to roaming subscribers as they will be charged on applicable tariffs based on the roaming network.
The last option of the new data proposition is the out of Bundle Tariff which is a Pay as You Go Tariff enabling subscribers to use Safaricom data on the go without subscribing to any of the above plans and bundles.
This will be charged at Kshs 4per MB and all customers will need to do is to purchase Safaricom airtime and start browsing.

My name is Timothy Njoora (Dr) and my telephone number is 0721638979. I have called customer care several times without concrete feedback. About three weeks ago I had more than 4GB of internet bundles that Safaricom took back from me based on what I consider a very unfair procedure of data expiry. The background is that while travelling overseas I tried to use the bundles and safaricom made it impossible to use. Instead consistently using my air time, even though I turned my data on when sending docs. Very frustrated and wonder how it can be okay for a company to take my hard earned money in the name of some internal company set up that disregards the fact that customer care is not just merely sending some quick message about expiry of bundles…never-minding that at least in my case I may not have had the access to expiry message. I am hoping that this issue can be resolved to my satisfaction.
