Movie Industry in Kenya seems to be losing the war against piracy.
Kenya Cinema was one of the first victim to be affected when it closed down its operations on October 2010. Just recently Fox Theatres Kenya announced that it will close some of its cinemas in the Kenyan market. Fox Theatres Kisumu Cineplex and the Fox Drive-In along Thika Road.
Piracy has affected so many business across board, with also Gaming sector has not being spared. However there seem to be major measures being put in the gaming sector to prevent piracy.
Playstation recently change its strategy in selling its games. Instead of selling games they have opted to sell licenses. So if this is to go by, all customers who want to play a game that they’ve bought, they will be required to input the license in order to activated the game.
In Mexico, there are no anti-piracy laws which is making it difficult to fight piracy. In Kenya there are piracy laws but more favourable to local music or movies as suppose to International music or movies.
In 2007, the movie industry suffered a whooping Ksh. 600 billion worldwide. With such loses no wonder many movie businesses are closing down. This figure has not changed so far in the recent years.
It has been hard to fight off the Movie piracy, since moviegoers with camcoders have been getting smarter, with High-definition camcorders, some not much bigger than a cellphone, can copy films from a movie screen with little loss of detail.

is it true that movie shops will be closed due to the international piracy… just heard a rumour to day and in that case I own one… so am worried to be misplaced.. since that’s my source of income

Which county are you in? I think the best way is to visit your county council office and find out from them since they will have different categories of business permit that they tend to issue to businesses.
