What It Takes To Be A Successful Entrepreneur

I have become a firm believer that success in life is a matter not so much of talent or opportunity but rather concentration and perseverance.

Allow me to explain my point, most entrepreneurs struggle in their business not because they lack opportunity or talent to execute their goals. It has been mainly lack of concentration on the core product or services of their business.

Many entrepreneurs find themselves become a jack of all trade. Let me be honest, I also found myself doing everything when I was starting my web design firm. The company core business is web design & web hosting, however i found myself providing printing services for business cards which was completely not part of my core business. I learnt a lot of lessons and lost so much money while at it.

In most places, it is considered that it is ideal to do so many things so that one can have a more probability of landing on opportunities. Well I completely disagree with that thought of school. As Robert Kiyosaki once mentioned that in business an entrepreneur needs to have a great FOCUS in what they are doing. He expounded on it by saying that FOCUS stands for “Follow One Course Until Success“. It does take a great deal of perseverance to stay in the one course until success. Entrepreneurship is all about perseverance, all of us are born to be entrepreneurs but very few of us get to practice it through the test of “concentration and perseverance“.

If you can’t summarise what you do in your business in 25 seconds then i would highly recommend that you rethink again and FOCUS on specific product/service that you can specialize with.

    Nice article Enock, many are the rimes that entrepreneurs start something and in the middle of it find some other entrepreneur successful in another venture that is almost related and they decide to also get in on it. Usually to the disadvantage of the entrepreneur coz mostly they don’t have the time and muscle to run both ventures.

    This creates a frustrated entrepreneur. There is a need to ensure that you harmonize all business ideals in your business plan, see viability and pursue it. Been there done that.

      Thanks Martin, the business hop, step and jump from one idea to another is usually the recipe that kills so many businesses. As entrepreneurs we need to be discipline and concentrate on specific products/services and work on them with perseverance until it is success.

      Then and only then, we can opt to venture into another business idea and do the same process over and over. And soon we will have many “Richard Branson” of Africa

    “Yes Enock it is just about focussing on making money using a certain avenue. Then you plan step by step how you are going to walk that avenue. It is not about education( though that spares you the school of hard knocks). Take a thief for example;

    1) do your due diligence
    2) know what you are stealing
    3) know step by step how you are going to breaking and break out, get the necessary human and other resources
    4) take into account the hazards or constraint like watchmen and dogs you may encounter and make the necessary counter plans
    5) Excute plan
    6) secure spoils lest you steal them yourself or your human resources steal them.”

      That’s a unique example you’ve given. Never thought of it from that point of view :)
